Between January and February, San Gimignano is filled with colour and joy: it is Carnival time! The historic squares and alleys of the town come alive with parades of masks, floats and costumes for young and old. A perfect event also for those travelling with children, who will be enchanted by this lively spectacle.

San Gimignano

Messi Fair

A journey through time among ladies, knights and ancient traditions. At the Ferie Messum, a historical commemoration of the fertility of the land, the town returns to the Middle Ages. For two days, San Gimignano is transformed: costume parades, themed stalls and the spectacular 'Giostra dei Bastoni', where four knights compete for the golden sword, one for each contrada.

San Gimignano

Nottilucente

A magical night that lights up the summer with music, art and performance. Nottilucente is a multidisciplinary festival that animates the streets of the centre with concerts, children's shows, exhibitions, installations, dance, theatre and much more. A unique opportunity to experience San Gimignano in a new light, until late at night.

The summer season makes the village even more attractive: take advantage of the events on the calendar to experience unforgettable evenings. Piazza Duomo becomes the stage for opera, ballet and chamber music, while Piazza della Rocca hosts film screenings. A summer full of emotions awaits you.

Between September and October, the Teatro dei Leggieri hosts classical music concerts with performances by great masters. An event not to be missed for those who love refined notes and want to enrich their stay with moments of culture and harmony.

San Gimignano

Lumiére

Every year, on the occasion of the Immaculate Conception, San Gimignano lights up with artistic projections, light games and light installations. "Lumière" brings creativity and spectacle to the village, transforming the medieval towers into works of art. To complete the event, live performances and DJ sets make the night vibrant and special.

Certaldo

Mercantia

In the heart of summer, Certaldo is transformed into a large open-air stage with Mercantia, the international street theatre festival. Artists, parades, music, dance and visual arts for an enthralling and original festival. Every evening a different programme, with more than 100 performances and 400 artists on stage.

San Quirico d'Orcia

Orcia Wine Festival

Inebriate yourself with the woody notes of oak barrel ageing, taste the strong accent of tannin, indulge in the unmistakable scent of Tuscan wines. Every year in the second half of April, the Orcia Wine Festival takes place, a celebration of the best bottles from the Val d'Orcia. The market exhibition is hosted in the 18th-century rooms of Palazzo Chigi in San Quirico d'Orcia and offers an excellent opportunity for tasting wines and local products.

TUSCANY

Nature Train

Spring in Tuscany begins with a journey back in time: the Treno Natura historical train rides start at this time. The romantic train takes you back to ancient times and idyllic landscapes: you travel in 'centoporte' carriages pulled by steam locomotives, which clatter through the green Tuscan hills. The Treno Natura, departing from Siena, stops at characteristic stations on the occasion of the most beautiful festivals and fairs in Tuscany.

Chianti

Open Cellars

The Cantine Aperte event, promoted by the Tuscan Wine Tourism Movement, is among the most popular wine tourism events among the general public. Year after year, on a weekend at the end of May, wine professionals and simple enthusiasts can taste excellent labels, learn their secrets and visit the most famous wineries for free or at special rates. Families, couples and wine lovers throughout Tuscany flock to the wineries, many in the Chianti area, that participate in the initiative.

Monteriggioni

'Of towers we crown'

On the first two weekends of July, the fortified village of Monteriggioni celebrates its glorious medieval past. The historical re-enactment "Di torri si corona" offers taverns, shows, games and costume parades in an evocative atmosphere. A plunge into the Middle Ages among ladies, knights and ancient customs.
